Mouth Guards prevent Injuries

No matter if you play a team sport, love fighting or do something else with the the risk of crushing your teeth and facing serious costs, you should wear your protective gear.

Roughly 5000$ is the cost per replaced tooth. How does this sound to you? And that is just the price for fixing one tooth. Maintenance over your lifespan adds a couple of more grands to this, if you want to keep everything nice, clean and working.

How much does a mouth guard cost you ask? The cheap guards start at 3$, more expensive ones might cost you 20-50 dollar. And a custommade by an orthodontist will cost between 100-200 bucks. How does this compare to the pain of a broken tooth, the time you have to spend in a dental chair and the money you have to spend on repairing it? Never forget, even the cheapest mouthguard is adjusted to your teeth. You put a mouthguard into boiling water to make it formable and then you bite on it. This process will customize it for your teeth setting. In case something screwed up, you can repeat this process usually up to 3 times, after that the mouth guard is shrunk and usually to small to fit.

A mouth guard sounds pretty inexpensive to me in the long run. Why are there so many people who do not wear a mouth guard? Probably because it is not cool. Always remember that having a beautiful smile is one of the best features you can have to attract a potential partner, there is no reason why should you waste on an opponents body part!

There are pretty much two companies that produce equally good mouth guards and it's a matter of personal taste. One of the companies is called Shock Doctor and they produce a wide array of high tech down to really inexpensive mouthpieces. The other one is called Brain-Pads and they produce very good double guards. While most of the shockdoctor guards just protect your upper row, the ones from Brain Pad protect both, and the good thing is that breathing should not be too much of a problem. If you decide to go for a full mouth guard you should wear it every once in a while when you are doing cardio training, as you breathing will be different.
